Fatstronaut

 

I like this one for a couple reasons. It's got an astronaut, it's got ice cream, it's got a fat guy chasing ice cream. Pretty simple. More so because when I ran a search for "What would happen to ice cream in a vacuum"  I found an answer. There was a post in a The Science Forum, which I might add is very aptly named. 

Here's an excerpt:

The whole thing will probably become freeze-dried ice cream/fruit beginning with the outside and working its way inward, depending on the length of exposure. The technical term is lyophilization, where everything freezes and the water sublimates. People see this in "shrunken" ice cubes in ice trays left for a long time in the freezer. The whole thing will freeze, but the lyophilized outer layer may prevent the rest from drying out. Same idea with the meat ... it will freeze-dry, and the vacuum of space will also disrupt/burst the cells. If you want these foods "cooked" to destroy harmful microbes, then few things survive lyophilization, so it should be safe.

To "revive" either, you'd need to add water, but you'll probably end up with a soup of molecular parts, which hardly sounds appetizing.

I this one is pretty clever. Sort of self explanatory. Pretty much the way exploring works.

Rats! Space Shuttle Program Shirt

I love this shirt. It's basically a play on Calvin leading his red wagon in disappointment. Sort of syncs up with the idea of the wagon in Calvin and Hobbes as being the vehicle for adventure. And now that the shuttle program is gone, how will we reach the stars? There's the Soyuz, but without a launch and re-entry vehicle of our own, we cannot truly explore the stars as we see fit.

The Program

I love this shirt. To me it highlights exactly what NASA and the space program is ultimately all about. It's about the advancement of the entire human race as a whole. I do find it interesting that the button on the spacesuit says 1972-2011, but they're using a Mercury era spacesuit which dates around the 60s. But I'm  not the type to split hairs.

It's not exactly an astronaut, but it's the space shuttle and that's close enough for me. Especially since the shuttle has since been retired :(. Bad news, this shirt is $16.99 which is a little pricey for me (I think all shirts should be a maximum of $10). Good news! This shirt is free with a purchase of $25 or more from ThinkGeek while supplies last! This makes the shirt more than worth it. Heck, A Dance with Dragons by George R. R. Martin is $24.99.

Fuzz Aldrin

A little on the pricey side for me, being $24.99 + Shipping. If you can find one cheaper, definitely jump on it. Plus you can get it in 6 different colors. It's a cat astronaut. What's not to like? It's a two-for.

Ode to Joy

Currently sold out on Threadless, this shirt is a pretty cool design. Lately I'm  not the biggest fan of all over print tees, only because I feel there is a bad connotation that comes with them. When you see all-over print tees, you tend to think TapOut, UFC, Ed Hardy, etc. But we always make exceptions for astronauts. It's a pretty bad ass picture. An astronaut fighting off some deepspace creature atop his vessel. It's an homage to the stories of explorers of old, sailing the high seas and battling krakens and sea serpents. I wonder if the same mythology regarding monsters will develop when we truly begin exploring the cosmos.
